Ferris Sweep v2 Case — Bubbleology

  • Source: https://www.printables.com/model/215167-ferris-sweep-v2-case
  • Category: prototype — printable case for the chosen keyboard
  • Role for KN-86: a free, printable case specifically designed for the Ferris Sweep v2 — directly actionable since the KN-86 keyboard is the Ferris Sweep (per keyboard-decision.md). Candidate enclosure for the Sweep halves (or starting point for a derivative) — alternative to or supplement for holykeebs’ supplied 3D-printed case option.
  • License / caveats: Printables per-model license — check before remixing or redistribution. Aesthetic / dimensional reference relationship for KN-86’s own bezel-design work; the Sweep itself stays canonical.

A free Printables STL set by Bubbleology for a case dimensioned specifically to the Ferris Sweep v2 PCB. The model includes the case halves (each Sweep half lives in its own case), and the geometry assumes Choc-spaced switches in their hotswap sockets. Bubbleology’s design lands in the same compact, low-profile silhouette family the Sweep itself commits to — minimal volume, clear access to the controller daughterboard / TRRS jack / reset switch.

For KN-86 this is the second concrete piece of the keyboard build (after the Sweep PCB order itself). The holykeebs Buyer’s Guide (holykeebs-buyers-guide.md) offers a case option as part of the order; Bubbleology’s case is the community-distributed alternative — free, printable, dimensionally specific to the Sweep v2, and the right starting point if we want to print our own rather than buy holykeebs’ supplied case.

  • Direct fit for the decided keyboard. Bubbleology’s case is for the Ferris Sweep v2 — not a generic split-keyboard case adapted to fit. Dimensional certainty: same PCB outline, same screw-hole positions, same controller cutouts. Lowest-risk path to a printed Sweep enclosure.
  • Color/finish coordination opportunity. KN-86’s Pelican-1170 chassis (QRPπ template) sits at the outer scale; the Sweep cases sit at the inner scale (the Sweep halves inside the deck). Printing Bubbleology’s case in the same filament profile (matte PLA or PETG, color-matched to the Pelican shell — black for canonical, optionally a contrasting accent on visible chamfered edges) ties the visual together. Cross-link Adamow cyberdeck + TechNIK cyberdeck for the broader silhouette family the printed case should match.
  • Alternative to holykeebs’ supplied case. The holykeebs Buyer’s Guide includes a 3D-printed case as an order option. Bubbleology’s case is the path if we want to:
    • Print our own (we may already be printing the Pelican-1170 inset bezels — adding two more parts is small marginal cost)
    • Customize the color/finish beyond what holykeebs offers
    • Modify the case (with attribution + license respect) for the integration with the Pelican-1170 inset bezel — e.g., extending the case footprint to seat against a printed registration feature on the bezel
  • Sweep-cases-inside-Pelican-shell integration is its own design task. Bubbleology’s case gives the Sweep halves a complete enclosure on their own. KN-86 may want to:
    • Use the cases unmodified, with the Pelican bezel sized to seat the cased Sweep halves
    • Skip the cases entirely and seat bare Sweep PCBs directly against a custom Pelican bezel that acts as their case
    • Modify Bubbleology’s case to merge with the Pelican bezel as a single printed part per Sweep half
  • Decision deferred to bezel-design bring-up. Both directions are viable; the choice depends on how the bezel design evolves. Tracked as an open question in keyboard-decision.md.
